French Alps around Chamonix, France
The Aiguille du Midi ("Southern Needle”) is a 12,605 ft-tall mountain in the Mont Blanc massif within the French Alps. It is a popular tourist destination and can be directly accessed by cable car from Chamonix that takes visitors close to Mont Blanc. At the mountain's summit there is a panoramic viewing platform, a snack bar, a café, a restaurant, and a gift shop. When cable car was constructed in 1955, it was then the highest cable car in the world and remains the highest vertical ascent cable car in the world.
On the other side of Chamonix, another cable car goes up to the viewpoint of Planpraz, with a second line to the summit of Le Brévent (8,284 Feet) a prominent mountain in the French Alps. Le Brévent offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Mont Blanc massif and the surrounding Alpine landscape.
